THANDIZANI COMMUNITY BASED HIV/AIDS PREVENTION AND CARE
Thandizani HIV/AIDS Prevention and care Project began in September 1999 when Lundazi district was experiencing an increasing number of clients testing positive to HIV resulting in a tremendous need for community awareness and involvement to be able to fight the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Since 1999 Thandizani has grown to be the lead agency in the Eastern Province with a network of over 100 Community Care Groups.
Thandizani is based in Lundazi boma (town) in the Eastern Province of Zambia. Lundazi is one of the largest Districts in the Eastern part of Zambia. The District has a total population of approximately 290,000 people demarcated into 11 Chiefs. Lundazi District is 800 Kilometers from Lusaka the Capital City and 176 Kilometers from Chipata, the Provincial Administrative Capital.
